Volunteer Opportunities: Food Pantry
Volunteers are needed at the Augusta Health Food Pantry to provide assistance with patient check in and packaging shelf stable bags for food pantry restock.
Check-in shift: Volunteers are the welcoming face when patients and community members arrive. Volunteers greet everyone with a smile, gather appropriate information and provide them with their shelf stable items and fresh produce. There is lifting and walking involved in this process as some patients need assistance getting the packages out to their vehicles. On average, shelf stable bags weigh about 10 pounds and the veggies slightly less than that. There is a cart available to assist with transportation out to vehicles. The food pantry is operational on Mondays from 8am-4pm, Tuesdays from 12pm-4pm and Thursdays from 8am-4pm. Shifts are typically 2 or 4 hours but can be flexible.
Packaging shelf stable bags: Volunteers are needed to pack 30-40 shelf stable bags weekly and restock the food pantry space as needed. The packaging takes place in the Augusta Community Care Building and typically takes 30-45 minutes. Bags then need to be delivered to the food pantry in the Fitness Center building.
