Food as Medicine
Augusta Health has a farm and is receiving national attention for lifestyle medicine utilizing healthy farm produce. Fresh produce from the farm provides healthy cafeteria food, farm shares for employees and the community, and food for patients with chronic diseases and food insecurity. Augusta Health gastroenterologists, Dr. Christina Tennyson and Dr. Savita Srivastava, in collaboration with the farm, were featured on the cover of a national magazine; the article discusses the Augusta Health Digestive Wellness Program, its collaboration with the Alleghany Mountain Institute and the Augusta Health Farm. Their unique practice model uses nutrition-based therapy and integrated lifestyle interventions to treat patients with chronic GI illness, modulate the microbiome and use food as medicine. “GI at the Table: Using a Clinic-to-Farm-to-Table Approach in Gastroenterology.”
Shenandoah LGBTQ+
We believe that we are stronger together. We partner with the Shenandoah LGBTQ Center to improve inclusivity and education for our physicians, staff, and patients. The Shenandoah LGBTQ Center is a nonprofit organization working to build an Appalachian community where LGBTQ+ individuals can thrive. We offer education, advocacy, and support in the form of support groups, housing services, healthcare navigation, cultural competency training, community events, and more.
