Q&A

Why did you choose your specialty area?
I have always found Endocrinology very fascinating and mentally stimulating. I particularly have a passion for diabetes, thyroid and parathyroid disorders. These interests were strengthened by spending time at a rural family practice where diabetes was very prevalent and spending time on an endocrine surgery rotation. Patient education is also something that is extremely important to me. This specialty allows me to educate my patients on their conditions so that they may make informed decisions. I look forward to building relationships with my patients.

How do you spend your spare time?
I enjoy spending time outside hiking. If it is a weekend with nice weather, that is likely where I'll be. I have a big interest in fitness and enjoy lifting weights and working out. I also enjoy cooking, trying out new recipes and new restaurants. Family is extremely important me. I love spending time with my family whether it is celebrating a birthday, going on our OBX beach trips, or just hanging out. I am a proud Aunt and adore my nieces and nephews.

#1 health tip that you can offer:
Stay active! A risk factor for a wide variety of diseases is physical inactivity. Coincidentally, the first treatment approach for a wide variety of diseases is lifestyle modifications including increasing physical activity and weight loss. You don't have to be a professional athlete by any means, but just stay active! Take a walk, park farther away, go for a hike, pick up a sport, limit eating out, cook at home more, etc. These small changes can improve your health tremendously and the best part is that you are in control of it!
