Augusta Health Awarded AHA and CMS Awards
Across the United States — especially in rural areas like the Shenandoah Valley — there are shortages of providers and accessible healthcare facilities. Not only are there shortages, but more people aren’t able to reach doctor’s offices due to growing social and economic barriers. Over the last year, Augusta Health has worked to provide medical and primary care in people’s backyards.
Augusta Health’s Clint Merritt, MD, Chief Physician Executive, and Krystal Moyers, Administrative Director of Community Outreach were featured on WHSV to talk about the work Augusta Health has done to address health equity issues, earning the hospital Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and American Hospital Association awards.

Augusta Health Honored with 2024 AHA Carolyn Boone Lewis Equity of Care Award
Augusta Health has achieved a significant milestone by being one of only three hospitals and health systems nationwide to receive the highly esteemed American Hospital Association’s (AHA) 2024 Carolyn Boone Lewis Equity of Care (EOC) Award. This national recognition, given in honor of Ms. Lewis, the first African American hospital trustee to chair the AHA Board, is evidence of Augusta Health’s dedication to eliminating barriers in healthcare for the communities it serves. This is Augusta Health’s second recent national award for promoting health equity. In May, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services recognized Augusta Health with a CMS Health Equity Award.

Augusta Health Receives 2024 CMS Health Equity Award
Augusta Health was one of two national awardees honored at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Health Equity Conference on May 30, 2024, with a Health Equity Award. This award is presented to organizations that advance health equity by reducing disparities in healthcare access, quality, and outcomes.
Augusta Health was recognized for improving access to healthcare in vulnerable communities. The hospital, aiming to be a national model for community-based healthcare, implemented Augusta Health Neighborhood Clinics, previously known as Primary Care Mobile Clinic, to reach neighborhoods with rural geographic barriers and local cities with high poverty rates and adverse social and health barriers.
