Augusta Health Welcomed US Senator Kaine to AMI Farm

FISHERSVILLE, VA, –Augusta Health welcomed US Senator Tim Kaine on Friday afternoon to learn more about the Alleghany Mountain Institute (AMI) farm located on Augusta Health’s main campus. Senator Kaine toured farms around Shenandoah Valley to discuss the Virginia Farm bill to support America’s farmers.

Hannah Dorrel from the AMI farm toured the Senator and his staff. They picked different vegetables and learned how the farm supports the community and patients through different food programs. They also had a chance to sample fresh-grown produce and talk with AMI and Augusta Health team members.

Senator Kaine joined a Q&A with hospital team members and board members. Mark LaRosa, VP of Business Development and Marketing stated, “this was a great opportunity to showcase the national healthcare model Augusta Health is and how we can support so many patients who face food insecurities.” The AMI farm opened in 2018 and produced 30,500 pounds of food last year.
